Memorial Gestures 4: May 2026 – present

We are thrilled to announce the five artists and writers we are working with for our 4th year of Memorial Gestures!

Our two artists-in-residence at Holocaust Centre North are Jo Clement and Delilah Sykes. They will both also complete a micro-residency with Invisible Flock at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Our artist-in-residence at Holocaust Centre North and the University of Huddersfield’s Centre of Archaeology is Sally Wetherall. She will also complete a micro-residency with Invisible Flock in Yorkshire Sculpture Park. This year’s edition of Memorial Gestures includes two new residency formats: Dayanny So is our a Community Artist-in-residence, working with 6 Million +, and Martyna Puciato is our Cultural Translator-in-residence. The cohort started their residencies in May and will be working with us for the remainder of the year.

  • New Residency Formats: Cultural Translator & Community Artist in residence

    Alongside residencies which invite artists to explore the Holocaust Centre North Archive and use their artistic practice to respond to materials they feel have contemporary relevance, our fourth iteration of Memorial Gestures also includes two new residency formats: a Community Artist in residence and a Cultural Translator in residence.

    These two new roles are a chance for Holocaust Centre North to work in co-creation with communities in Kirklees and explore material from our archive with contemporary audiences. Our Community Artist in Residence will be working with communities in Kirklees to reflect on archive materials alongside contemporary experiences of forced migration.

    Our Cultural Translator in residence will select material from the Holocaust Centre North Archive to be translated into community languages, making our archive material accessible to wider audiences. Using this translated material as a starting point, the cultural translator will lead on a series of workshops with community language speakers exploring how memory, identity and meaning translate across generations, languages, cultures and community groups.
